This will be a hectic and interesting week! Wednesday is the start of One Spark, the world’s crowdfunding festival, with more than 150,000 people expected to take over downtown Jacksonville. The 5-day event covers a 20-square-block, multi-venue gallery, “connecting people with great ideas to resources they need to make them a reality.” The festival offers a series of speakers, performances, crowdfunding pitches and a food village – definitely my kind of party!
This year I am honored to be a juror for the music category, which includes more than 50 acts looking for funding support. The event will award more than $300,000 to the top “Creators”, with more than $200,000 awarded based on the votes of the crowd. In addition, we will be selecting one Creator for a separate $10,000 cash award.
One Spark is a non-profit organization created in 2011 to foster an environment of innovation. It has grown tremendously over the past 3 years to become the largest event of its kind, with 5 project categories: Art, Innovation, Music, Science and Technology. What a great opportunity to harness the power of the crowd to reward creative entrepreneurs eager to make their projects successful!
